I always wanted to be a Tenenbaum, you know?

Goodness, where to start. When it comes to Fashion Week, I have no interest whatsoever in any designers other than the tiny few that lie close to my own style aesthetic - which is why Orla makes my Fashion Week every time (and why I was super sad she wasn't showing last season). It isn't just the clothes - it's the atmosphere that is so unmistakably Orla: optimistic, uplifting and vivacious. The dull, worn-out stark white catwalk is replaced with... a 60s typist's office populated with a host of Margot Tenenbaum-esque employees accoutered in the most formidable Margot Tenenbaum-esque outfits. Cardigans with squirrel, badger and rabbit applique, scalloped hems on swing skirts, a suit of golden brocade and a plentiful seasoning of mustard were all instant favourites. Not to mention the beehives and soundtrack of the clicking typewriters (why oh why did I not bring mine this term?)...

 The presence of delectable visual merchandising (this time in the form of old-fashioned office paraphernalia: files, letters, coin purses, circle dial telephones and clocks), models that seem genuinely happy to be there, the radiant Leith Clark and the designer herself (both of whom I always yearn to congratulate afterwards, but never feel like it's my place) is always the best finishing touch to Orla's presentations, and this year was certainly no disappointment.
